About MRREC

MRREC promotes environmental awareness, activities and communication. We facilitate networking and collaboration between local community members and other environmental groups, indigenous groups and government agencies. Our group encourages and supports community members to feel empowered and to be proactively involved in issues they are concerned about.

MRREC was established in 1996 and incorporated in 2000. The picture shows our first premises at the old Infant Health Centre in Memorial Park.

In December 2016 members celebrated our 20th anniversary at our new premises in Clarke Road between the Montessori School and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

You can download MRREC's constitution (1.3Mb PDF) adopted on 12th July 2018.

Our Region and Biodiversity

Did you know that here in the South West we live in one of twenty five internationally listed biodiversity hotspots? This is because many of our plants, animals and ecosystems (like the Hairy Marron which only lives in the Margaret River) are threatened with extinction. There are fifteen significant sites which have been identified in Australia by the Federal Government, but it is only the South West region of Western Australia that has international recognition.
